A Little Fall, A Little Halloween

Hi friends!

October is here, so I thought we’d ease into the month with a couple of simple projects you can make without much fuss.

One is all about fall, and the other brings a little Halloween fun. Best of all, both use things you may already have around the house or in your workshop.

Painted Acorns for Fall Decorating

Have you ever painted acorns? This is such an easy little project, and they’re fun to use in bowls, trays, centerpieces, or wherever you need a little fall color.

I tried several finishes, including something you might not expect... nail polish! It worked surprisingly well and gave the acorns a pretty, smooth finish.

Scrap Wood Jack-o-Lanterns & Ghosts

If you have some 4x4 scraps hanging around, don’t toss them!

A little paint and some funny faces turn them into pumpkins and ghosts for the porch. I made mine in different sizes, which makes them even cuter grouped together. And you don’t need a cutting machine for the faces. You can paint them on instead.

In Case You Missed It

Remember the green bench made from an old crib?

I recently revisited this project and realized it’s a lot more versatile than just a toy box. That hidden storage would be just as handy in an entryway, mudroom, or even at the foot of a bed.

Trending: The Little Church Pew

This little church pew is getting some attention again! It had quite a history before I finally tackled its makeover, including years in storage and even flood damage. This one definitely tested my patience.

And One More Little Bit of Fall...

I have to show you this wreath!

My daughter Jamie made it with her son Eli using thrifted finds, which of course makes me love it even more. If you're local to Nashville, check out SMART Art and Craft Supplies. If you love to craft, find your nearest reuse craft center. Because if you're like me, you probably have something you can donate. :)

Jamie put Eli in charge of the bow. She found a tutorial on YouTube, and he followed along and made that beautiful plaid bow himself. I think he did an amazing job! When he's not outside playing, Eli loves cutting and folding paper into amazing origami shapes. This Summer he made me the prettiest 3D paper heart.

There isn’t a tutorial for this wreath, but I couldn’t resist sharing it with you. A thrifted wreath, a mother-and-son project, and a gorgeous bow Eli made. That’s my kind of fall decorating.

Have a great weekend, friends!

a collection of white wooden frames

Hi there! Do you have an old picture frame tucked away? You know I usually have a few waiting for their next job! This one became an open-front shadow box. There’s no glass to work around, so changing the display is easy. I’ve refreshed the tutorial and added some styling ideas, including a little Christmas inspiration. See How to Make Your Own Shadow Box While you’re there, follow the links to more picture frame projects. You might find an idea for something already in your stash. Happy...

a collection of simple wall shelf ideas

Happy Friday! Sometimes I want to make something without turning it into a big production. A small wall shelf is a great weekend project, especially when you can use pieces you already have. Before heading to the store, take a look through your leftover wood or that old furniture you’ve been saving for parts. You might have the makings of one of these! a very vintage footstool

Hi friends! I found the perfect little footstool for my camper, but it needed a bit of a makeover before I brought it inside. I gave it a fresh coat of paint and used a Happy Camper T-shirt that was too small for me. Now it’s just right for propping up my feet while I work on my laptop. Lulu Mae found a use for it, too! 🐾 See the small footstool makeover While you’re there, be sure to check out my other footstool makeovers for more ideas! gail
